Back for now. New forum features + Current MvM Server status.
Posted by: Striker - 12-18-2013, 10:54 PM - Forum: News - Replies (2)

Hi, I'm back for now. My birthday passed by yesterday, and I've finally decided to get back online, if perhaps a bit earlier than expected. (I was planning to disappear indefinitely.. but some people pressured me to keep on the radar.) I apologize if I worried anyone, but I really needed to take some time away in order to get my emotional state somewhat back into order, and take care of some affairs in the real world (such as my temporary job, which has since finished). In the time that I've been away, I've done something that might get people more interested in the forum here: An Arcade!

What is it? It's a full leaderboard system and flash gaming section running on the forum software. I've set the forum up with some flash games based on classic titles, such as Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Bust-A-Move(Puzzle Bobble), Raiden, Sonic, and Tetris. There's more games to come as well, and I'm focusing on particularly high-quality games. Getting high scores will be recorded to the site, and you can compare these scores with others on the site.

Why did I do it? Well, it may encourage people to browse the forum and/or post, but it's also just a good way to kill time if you're bored.

How do you access it? Just click the "Arcade" link at the top-left of the Forum's page.

If you have any suggestions for good flash games to add, please say so in a reply.

Now for some bad news: The Mann Vs. Machine server is closed until further notice. This is because Valve neglected to increase the size of their StringTable buffers to accommodate the fact they added new content. The tables are near full, and can easily overflow causing server crashes. Due to the fact that I run custom content, they overflow much more quickly and this prevents my server from running any longer than 30 minutes before crashing.

This bug affects many other servers aside from my own, even unmodded ones if they run for too long - and Valve has been incredibly negligent in fixing it despite the simplicity of the fix. (Edit of a number defining the buffer cap in the source code.) This is despite the fact this issue has been going on since before Halloween. Myself and several other people reported this issue repeatedly to them ever since then, and it has been left ignored.

So, sincerely- Fuck Valve.

  Terraria Server updated to 1.2.1.2
Posted by: Striker - 11-08-2013, 05:32 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

I've finally updated the Terraria Server to 1.2.1.2, now that TShock now supports it fully.

Sorry it took so long, but most of that can be put on the fact that it took so long for a new TShock release supporting it to be made.

If you haven't played on the Terraria Server before and wish to, info for logging in can be found here: https://shadowmavericks.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=9

Also, the "Join IRC Chat" button is fixed on the forum. This can allow you to talk to people in the Terraria Server without joining, and track activity. Click the user box in the upper-right corner of the forum, and click "Join IRC Chat".

  Donations Needed
Posted by: Striker - 11-01-2013, 08:20 PM - Forum: News - No Replies

On November 27th, the $167* bill for the [SM] servers is due. Unfortunately, I do not have any income currently, and I lack a means, and hard drive space to make a backup of the VPS. So, if I do not get the bill paid by that time, everything is gone, forever. (Site, Forum, Game Servers, all their code/content, the IRC, etc.)

So please, if anyone can spare $10 or more, it would be greatly appreciated, and it will allow the servers to remain up.

* (We switched to a 3-month cycle, vs. 2 month, it's cheaper that way, actually.)

Also, I would like to apologize for the instability of the TF2 Servers as of late. The Halloween update has really butchered things when it comes to keeping the server up. I managed to fix one of the crashes caused by the socket extension for SourceMod, but, the rest of the crashes are purely in Valve's hands.

It doesn't help that our server runs a lot of mods either, especially considering Valve likes to use arbitrary tables of a hard-coded, limited size (big mistake, imho.) for storing information such as downloads, models, entities, etc.

The additional content from updates, and the added content from mods often ends up causing them to exceed the limits/overflow and crash the server.

New Particle Effects for Gold-Tier donators, and Scout player model!
Posted by: Striker - 09-13-2013, 07:45 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

While I'm about a week or so late in announcing this, the Gold-Tier Donators now have access to a bunch of new particle effects for their Hunstman/Crossbow arrows, Rescue Ranger shots, and Sandman balls!

Here's a list:

  • Green Fire
  • Orange Fire
  • Green Energy
  • Purple Energy
  • Dripping Piss
  • Dripping Jizz
  • Cauldron Bubbles
  • Rainbow Sparkles
  • Light Warp
  • The Matrix
  • Trail of Blood
  • Yellow Electricity
  • Green Electricity

Also, Gold-Tier donators have access to a new player model for the Scout! The Fox Scout.

Donators can easily set these up by visiting http://shadowmavericks.com , signing in via Steam, and clicking their name in the upper-left area to go to the settings page!

Lastly, here's a picture of something I have been working on: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi...=178046166

Feel free to reply with your thoughts. Also, if you had donated more than $5, and it isn't updated in the system, please let me know!

  New feature for Gold($30) donators
Posted by: Striker - 07-25-2013, 04:33 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

Gold donators now have access to a command which allows them to fly around much like no-clip, but unlike no-clip, it doesn't allow one to move through walls.

It's a fast and convenient way to travel around the maps, and isn't as exploitable.

It can be used by typing "!fly" in chat during a casual map. Typing the command again turns it off.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Command is a bit different now. Edited the text above to reflect that.

Giving $50 Donation status for Rise of the Triad 4-pack
Posted by: Striker - 07-23-2013, 07:38 PM - Forum: News - Replies (3)

I don't normally do this, but this is an opportunity for anyone who cannot donate via paypal, but are able to use the Steam Wallet to get a donator status. If you CAN use paypal, you can still do this.

I'm willing to establish them as a $50 donator if they are willing to buy a copy of the Rise of the Triad 4-pack, and send a copy to myself, Foxy, and another [SMR] member of their choosing.

Thanks!

Here's the game on the Steam Store: http://store.steampowered.com/app/217140/

  Who wants/needs HL2DM?
Posted by: Striker - 05-15-2013, 08:14 AM - Forum: News - Replies (3)

Is there anyone in [SMR] who would like a copy of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch? I'm trying to make sure as many players in the community have it, so we can get some huge games going.

For those who don't know what it is, look here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/320/

It's an arena shooter based on Half-Life 2, with inspirations from Quake and Unreal. One of the things that makes the game special and different from the others is the ability to use the gravity gun. I've been running a server for it with a bunch of really cool mods, to make the game funny, fast, and frantic. Funny kill sounds, flying ragdolls, and ridiculous player models (like Billy Mays) galore.

The server has many of the donator benefits as the TF2 server (In fact, perhaps more.) and also contains a lot of the special effects and gameplay tweaks. (Enhanced headshots, gore/gibbing, kill streaks, weapon re-balancing.)

I've also recently made a full client mod for HL2DM that replaces the menus, weapons, sounds, and textures as well. I'll make a separate thread for that though.

Anyone who wants HL2DM and is willing to play it with us, leave a post here.

The TF2 Server is back online
Posted by: Striker - 05-01-2013, 03:33 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

Well, now that the SteamPipe version of TF2 has finally hit, I've brought the TF2 server back online. It took a lot of time and effort to get everything transferred over, but it was worth it.

The MvM server is still down, but it will soon follow.

In other news, I'm considering an opt-in for the Hentai decals in the servers, for those who don't wish to join the SonicHentai.net Steam Group. If anyone is interested, let me know.

For those who want to join the SH.net group anyway, here's the group URL: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/sonichentai
