  Website redesign
Posted by: Striker - 09-06-2016, 10:00 PM - Forum: News - No Replies

As you might have already noticed, I've been working on redesigning the website. So far I have most of the layout figured out, but I just need to finish some other things before I can call it "complete".

Things I need to finish:

  • Steam Integration
  • Servers list
  • Clan Calendar
  • Server Settings
When I'm done everything, I'll edit this post.

  E-Mail Activation (hopefully) fixed.
Posted by: Striker - 11-11-2015, 03:58 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

Some people weren't getting their account activation E-Mails. Hopefully they should be going through now that I've done a few things.

EDIT: Seems AOL and Microsoft are still blocking things. I sent support tickets to them, hopefully they will remove us from their block lists.

EDIT2: Microsoft removed us from their block list. Seems it was due to having my reverse DNS set up incorrectly and the spam blocker tripped. Fixed now, all I need to do now is wait for AOL.

I decided to implement a new feature on the forum. If you enter the following code into your signature:

You can show a box in your signature that shows your twitch streaming status in real-time. It also provides a link to your twitch profile.

Exclamation Forum has been updated
Posted by: Striker - 09-25-2014, 12:26 AM - Forum: News - Replies (1)

In the light some some recent events, I've decided to update to the latest version of MyBB in order to make sure that I can keep this forum up and running and secure.

For now, this means the Arcade is gone, and same with Spoiler tags, but overall everything should still be alright.

The TF2 downtime hasn't been all bad.
Posted by: Striker - 08-25-2014, 09:44 PM - Forum: News - Replies (1)

TF2's situation right now is pretty sad when most Windows-based servers for TF2 cannot run for more than two maps without shitting itself. For that reason, I had to take it down, at least temporarily. I apologize for this, but for the sake of my own sanity, I had to put it aside. I've been pretty sick as well lately, and dealing with the added stress of trying to solve an impossible puzzle wouldn't have helped.

However, it's not all bad.

Ever since I had to take the TF2 Server down due to crashes and whatnot, I've brought up a CounterStrike: Source server in the meantime. We've had several players in there the other day, and it was quite fun. It also helped me solve a bunch of problems I wasn't aware of beforehand. For example, it turns out that Ultimate Mapchooser was partly to blame for the crashes we had before, so I've found it necessary to drop it completely and scrap my upcoming alternative version of it.

Now, I've moved back to MapChooser Extended, and the crashes in CSS and HL2DM as well are gone. Fuck Yes! However, there's two major downsides to switching to MCE again, and that is, there'll be no more game-mode voting, it'll all be by map, and MapRate will no longer have any effect on map sorting. I'm gonna take a day or two to sit down and come up with something to alleviate this, but for now I'm just gonna stick with what I have now.

Another thing that starting up the CSS server has benefited, is StrikerMod. I've found that CSS as of sometime this year, finally fixed HUD Messages, so I've been able to delete 90% of the code that involved checking for CSS as the current running game and rerouting the messages to chat/center print. That means a lot of the features like Kill Streaks and whatnot have much cleaner code, they are more efficient/less laggy, and I no longer feel like ripping my hair out when managing the code by hand.

If anyone is interested in checking out the CSS Server until I can resurrect the TF2 server, the ip is shadowmavericks.com:27015 . Hope you guys like it, and if you have suggestions, let me know. Also, if you own Garry's Mod, you most likely have a copy of CSS in your library.

Also, a lot of thanks go to the donators who have helped keep [SM]'s network alive in the last little while. You've guaranteed our survival for the next 3 months!

  Donations needed by Aug 27th.
Posted by: Striker - 08-18-2014, 04:31 AM - Forum: News - Replies (4)

The server bill comes Aug 27th, and so far only $28 of the full $170 required by NFOServers.com has been donated. I'm extremely broke and I can cover perhaps $50 of it, if even at this time due to bills, food, rent, etc.

I'll try to back up as much as possible if donations don't roll in by the 23rd, but if the server goes down, that's the end of it all until such a time I can afford the server again. (Which would be a very long time, years perhaps if I can't find work.)

If you wish to donate, visit http://shadowmavericks.com and log in via Steam. Then, click the donation progress bar, or the "Donate" button.

I want to say thank you to the supporters we've had for a very long time, and your help is very much appreciated. For those out there who have already donated over $100 over the server's lifespan, I'm considering bringing along a Diamond Tier donation level. What would that tier imply? Well, I'm not sure yet, but I'm open to suggestions!

Also, thank you to those who have helped populate the server again in recent times! Thanks for hanging around, and also being supportive and patient as I try me best to solve the stability issues we've had. I'm putting extra effort into solving any problems, and getting new content to you folks!

For those of you who haven't been around for a while, we've got a new map based on Green Hill Zone and Marble Zone from Sonic thanks to Fiend Kitsune! It's only in beta so far, but it's fantastic. As for other stuff... There's new player models, bunny hop for casual mode, and some other stuff is on the way!

Anyhow... Sorry I have to ask people to Donate, but as always, it's voluntary and nobody is forced to. However, the unfortunate side of things right now is that it cannot be kept up without them. If I had the funds of my own, I'd gladly pay for it in it's entirety, but my situation forbids it right now.

  Donation System has been Improved
Posted by: Striker - 07-30-2014, 04:39 AM - Forum: News - Replies (1)

The donations system has received some major overhauls as of late. Now, donation progress shows on the server MOTDs, and the Website home page. See: http://shadowmavericks.com and https://shadowmavericks.com/MOTDs/motd.php

Also, Donating now automatically forwards your SteamID on to me if you donate through the website, so now there's no more confusion as to who donated. This also speeds up the process of your donation entry into the system as long as I'm around.

I might not be able to keep this up anymore.

Foxy and I have run into a bit of an unexpected financial crisis as of this month, and we're unsure of the future of the servers or the website.

We currently have approximately $290 to our name right now, and with the server bill and our internet bill ($102 net + $168 server), $270 of if will be gone, leaving us with about $20, which isn't enough to live on.

This is putting me in a very difficult situation, because I don't want to close the site/forum/server down as if I do, I'll lose everything and years worth of work and information. (I lack the medium for a backup. The server contains over 100gb of Data, and I lack the disk space.)

I hate to ask, as I was hoping to be able to sustain the server myself this month... but is there anyone still there willing to make a donation? I need to raise about $60 at least so I can cover the rest of the bill safely without needing to worry. Any more than that would allow us to be stable for months to come as it will go directly towards the server.

If you wish to help us out, our server donation page is here: https://www.nfoservers.com/donate.pl?for...@gmail.com

If you donate, let me know and identify yourself so I can register you as a donator.

I'm sorry about this...

If I need to put up another game on the VPS to motivate people, I'm willing to so. Name your game, be it GMOD, or whatever.

  Status Report
Posted by: Striker - 04-20-2014, 05:17 AM - Forum: News - Replies (3)

It's probably been a while since anyone has heard from me, so I'm going to explain where things have been going as of late.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for not showing up in the TF2 Server at all for ages. There's a few reasons for this. The first being that I've been concentrating on a personal project of mine... I'm taking the time to learn how to read and interpret x86 assembly code, so that I can successfully reverse engineer a classic game from my childhood known as Fury3. I've learned a lot in the last little while, and I've already started work on a patch to expand the game's capabilities. I'll be releasing this to the public once it is done. You can read up on my progress on the XL Engine forums.

The second thing that has been occupying my time is taking care of financial commitments and I'll soon by trying to get applied to the Nova Scotia Community College again so I can finish my high school diploma. It's been too long, and hopefully now that the losses I suffered in 2011 and 2012 are no longer fresh in my mind, and with help of Foxy who will be going to the same college, I'll be able to get through it without wanting to shoot myself in the head.

Third reason, is TF2 is really losing my interest... not because I don't like modding for it, but because Valve has broken the game horribly without even trying to fix it 3/4'ths of a year down the road. Because of that, I've hit that brick wall for the longest while, heavily limiting what I can do with the game, and the servers remain unstable. Until Valve fixes their game, I'm really wishing to move on.

Last reason I haven't been showing up is because I've been suffering from chronic, soul-crushing depression, physical exhaustion, and complete mental disarray. I'm being tormented by my own demons, and I feel cornered and alone. I'd explain more... but I don't want to make this post too long or bothersome. I just... need my friends right now.

Anyhow, with all of that aside, I put together something for the [SM] Community to use, and I hope people will start using it... I have an IRC Client pre-configured for use by everyone. It will allow people to connect to the official [SM] chat channels, and talk together in a group. It is purely text-based, but will allow anyone to keep in touch 24/7, and allow talking to people in the servers without even playing the game(s).

It can be downloaded here: https://shadowmavericks.com/files/Apps/SM_NetTalk.zip

Just extract the ZIP into a folder, and run NetTalk.exe. All should automatically start up in your System Tray. You can use the text box at the bottom to chat, and the tabs at the top to change channels.

If you want that nice DOS-Style font, just double-click the "Perfect DOS VGA 437.ttf" file that comes with the program, and click "Install". (Right-click and Install works too.)

New maps, permission changes, important stuff, etc.
Posted by: Striker - 02-16-2014, 11:55 PM - Forum: News - No Replies

Alright, since you guys haven't heard much from me in the last little while, I figure I might as well state what's going on.

In the last little while, I've been adding more maps to the Team Fortress 2 server. Maps such as a new Balloon Race, Toystore, and a few others. Keep an eye out on the map list for any new maps you may be interested in! There's also a new game-mode called ClusterBuck, inspired by Zandronum's Buckshot mode. Many of you guys are aware of this already, so it's not really news by this point.

However, here's some real news: as of today I've changed the permissions of the Reporting system, so only Basic-Tier ($1.00) and higher donators can use the command. This is absolutely necessary because people were abusing it to send self-reports and false reports in hopes of getting innocent people banned. It's the community's duty to help make accurate reports against people who are causing genuine trouble. So please, if you see someone who is violating the rules, harassing people, or being a shithead... use the !report command! This can be incredibly useful when admins and moderators are not around.

Next up, I want to tell everyone that the Half-Life 2: Deathmatch server is still alive and kicking. If you want to play on it, just connect to shadowmavericks.com:27019 in HL2DM. Also, there's a mod you can install for HL2DM that I've created for the community, it can be found here: https://shadowmavericks.com/files/Server...M_Pack.zip

Installation of that mod is pretty self-explanatory if you've ever installed mods in the /custom/ folder of any Source Engine game.

Lastly, there's something I want to stress to everyone: If you cannot find any of our servers / any one seems to be down, LET. ME. KNOW! Far too many times, a server has gone down, and people notice, but don't tell me. It's irritating, because I want to keep them up as often as I can!
